What would a relationship with a living object look like ?
Material research of interactions between natural raw materials such as sand and stone, with a mineral-producing bacteria, has creates a collection of new, living materials.
The bacteria bind the aggregates, solidifying the material into a unified entity that acts as a habitat in the form of an object, continues to re-shape and evolve over time, undergoes internal processes and responds to external stimuli like light and temperature.
The therapeutic, ritualistic experience of caring for this object, which requires sustained nourishment and attention to thrive, fosters a unique relationship between the object and its owner.
It’s a symbiotic, co-creative design process between humans and living organisms, that persists as long as life remains within it.
